This is the third chapter in the "Library of the Dead" saga but it didn't excite me as much as the first two did.In the previous books (above all in the first) it was quite impossible to stop reading because of the use of flashbacks and flashforwards. There were good links to history, from the monks in England before the year 1000, to Winston Churchill in the "Library of the Dead", to Shakespeare and Nostradamus in the "Book of Souls". The constant twists made the rhythm tight without loss of tension.
In the novel in question although the author's style continues to keep the reading fast the plot has less twists: this time the story is set in the future where Will Piper and his family find themselves facing a possible "end of the world" situation.
As always the plot is dynamic, Cooper does not allow his narration to bore the reader making this a pleasant read but certainly leaving it in the shadow of its two predecessors.

Questo terzo capitolo de "La Biblioteca dei morti" non è entusiasmante quanto i primi due.
Nei precedenti, specialmente nel primo, attraverso il gioco di flashback e flashforward, era quasi impossibile interrompere la lettura: verosimili collegamenti alla storia, dai monaci dell'abbazia di Vectis prima dell'anno 1000, a Winston Churchill ne "La Biblioteca dei morti", a Shakespeare e Nostradamus ne "Il libro delle anime" e continui colpi di scena rendevano il ritmo serrato, senza cali di tensione.
Nel romanzo in questione, nostante lo stile dell'autore continui a far sì che la lettura sia veloce, la trama risulta più scarsa in quanto a colpi di scena: questa volta la storia è ambientata nel futuro e Will Piper e la sua famiglia si trovano alle prese con una possibile "fine del mondo".
La trama è dinamica: come sempre, Cooper non permette che la narrazione arrivi ad annoiare il lettore. Per questo la lettura è piacevole, ma resta nell'ombra dei primi due grandi successi.
